When winter is upon us, and for those in the nothern temperate region, we can do with that extra dose of vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential and helps to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body as well as serving other important functions. Whilst our own body can generate vitamin D by exposure to the Sun, this is often difficult especially in the winter nothern temperate climates and if you are simply not getting enough sun the following are several healthy food options for Vitamin D:
- Sardines
- Anchovies
- Egg yolks
When supplementing the best option is to go for Vitamin D3 as this is more bio available for the body. Cheese is also a food option for Vitamin D3 however due to it’s allergy inducing effect it is probably best not to consume regularly.
